HAND Sensitivity Training on Best Practices in Bereavement Care for Healthcare Providers
HAND offers free professional training to healthcare and mental health providers on best practices in bereavement care as well as in-service training about HAND’s services. We have presented at numerous hospitals, clinics and birth centers in the Bay Area.
Our goal is to provide education, resources and sensitivity training to healthcare professionals, so they are better equipped to handle loss and provide compassionate care to bereaved parents and families. The training covers the following topics:
- Understanding grief from the perspective of the bereaved parent
- The provider’s role in parent education and empowerment
- Helping parents make memories and keepsakes
- How to effectively communicate with bereaved parents (e.g. the do’s and don’ts)
- Providing care during specific scenarios (e.g. stillbirth, loss of fetal heartbeat, subsequent pregnancy)
Our presentation can be in-person or virtual, to both large and small groups. We can tailor our training to fit your organization’s needs and work with you to obtain CE credits. For example, we have previously presented at several annual skills days for labor & delivery departments. We have also consulted with hospitals on the implementation of perinatal bereavement teams and how best to care for bereaved parents.
HAND also provides free professionally printed HAND brochures to hospitals, clinics, birth centers in the Bay Area. These brochures serve as a valuable resource to newly bereaved parents and their family and friends.
